Kim graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with his Bachelor of Science degree. After graduation he served as an infantry offer in the Ranger and Special Forces units. Kim later received his law degree from the University of Puget Sound and help founded the law firm Putnam Lieb Potvin.
He has served as legislative counsel as an active member of the Washington State Association for Justice, head of the workers' compensation and insurance, and as well as on the board of directors. Kim has received multiple awards and honors as a U.S. News Best Lawyer, Martindale Hubbell AV rated attorney, Million Dollar Advocate, and a Thomson Reuters Super Lawyer.
